The Jaguars of Pantanal

The Pantanal encompasses the world's largest tropical wetland area. It is located mostly within the Brazilian state of Moto Grosso do Sul. It sprawls over an area estimated at between 140,000 and 195,000 square kilometers. The Pantanal is home to one of the largest and healthiest Jaguar populations anywhere on Earth. The Jaguar, Panthera onca needs no introduction and is one of the most charismatic cat species in the world and it will be the focus of this Expedition. Apart from Jaguar the Pantanal is home to a teaming array of wildlife including Hycanth Macaw, the Crowned Solitary Eagle, Toco Toucan, South American Tapir, Giant Anteater. Capybara, Yacare Caiman and many more. In Total the Pantanal ecosystem is thought to be home to 1,000 bird species, 400 fish species, 300 mammalian species, 480 reptile species and over 9000 different subspecies of invertebrates making it one of the most bio-diverse wildlife habitats in the world.
